Intel Xeon Gold 6258R — 28 cores and 56 threads at 2.70 GHz base / 4.00 GHz turbo, 38.5 MB cache, 205 W TDP, FCLGA3647. Supplied from stock with a 1-year warranty.
The 6258R is the part that finally made a 28-core Xeon affordable. Intel released it in Q1 2020 as a "Refresh" SKU: the silicon is the same 14 nm Cascade Lake die as the original Gold 6258, the clock speeds and 38.5 MB of cache are identical, but the list price was cut hard so that LGA3647 platforms could keep selling into the following CPU generation.
That is precisely why it makes sense today for anyone refreshing used servers. A PowerEdge R640, ProLiant DL380 Gen10 or ThinkSystem SR650 that shipped with a 12- or 16-core Silver can take a 6258R and roughly double its core count without replacing the board, the memory or the power supplies — the socket, the 6-channel DDR4-2933 controller and the 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes are common to the whole 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable family.

Any dual-socket LGA3647 platform with a C620-series chipset (C621, C622, C624, C627) built for 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable is a candidate. The models we ship against most often:
Boards that shipped before the Cascade Lake launch usually need a BIOS and microcode update before they will POST with a 6258R. Tell us the server model when you enquire and we will confirm the required firmware level. Gen10 Plus and 15th generation PowerEdge use the newer LGA4189 socket and are not compatible.
| Processor | Cores / Threads | Base / Turbo | Cache | TDP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold 6258R | 28 / 56 | 2.70 / 4.00 GHz | 38.5 MB | 205 W |
| Gold 6258 | 28 / 56 | 2.70 / 4.00 GHz | 38.5 MB | 205 W |
| Gold 6230R | 26 / 52 | 2.10 / 4.00 GHz | 35.75 MB | 150 W |
| Gold 6248R | 24 / 48 | 3.00 / 4.00 GHz | 35.75 MB | 205 W |
| Gold 6252 | 24 / 48 | 2.10 / 3.70 GHz | 35.75 MB | 150 W |
Choose the 6258R when density matters most and your firmware already supports a 205 W part. Choose the 6230R if your chassis or budget is limited to 150 W. Choose the 6248R if your workload is more frequency-sensitive than thread-hungry.
Every processor is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship and function. If a part fails within the period we replace it or refund it, and we cover return shipping on a verified fault. Stock is held in our own warehouse and normally dispatches within three to seven working days; tracking is issued at dispatch.
The minimum order quantity for this processor is 2 units. Price is quotation-based rather than listed, because server CPU pricing moves with each incoming batch — send us the quantity you need and we will come back with a firm quote and the current lead time. Larger quantities are tested in matched batches so you receive consistent steppings.
Tell us who you are — we reply within one working day with a firm quote, stock status and lead time. Volume discounts available.
