The Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 — 24 cores and 48 threads at 2.40 GHz base / 3.90 GHz turbo, 35.75 MB cache, 165 W TDP, FCLGA3647. Supplied from stock with a 1-year warranty.
The 8260 is a 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable Platinum (Cascade Lake) part, launched in Q2 2019 on a 14 nm process. What sets Platinum 82xx parts apart from Gold is multi-socket scalability: the 8260 supports up to 8 sockets (S8S) in one system, which makes it a favourite for large SMP servers — the classic R940/DL580/SR950 class — where many cores must share one memory pool.
The platform: 6 channels of DDR4-2933 (up to 1 TB per socket, Intel Optane persistent memory supported), PCIe 3.0 with 48 lanes per socket, and 3 UPI links at 10.4 GT/s for the multi-socket fabric. With 24 cores at 165 W it is also one of the most power-efficient 24-core Cascade Lake parts, which keeps it in active demand for secondary-market fleet refreshes.

Instruction set extensions: Intel SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2 and AVX-512 with two FMA units, plus Intel DL Boost (VNNI). Security and management: AES-NI, TXT, Run Sure, VT-x with EPT and VT-d.
The 8260 fits Cascade Lake platforms on the FCLGA3647 socket, from 2U two-socket nodes to big 4S/8S SMP boxes:
Buying on the secondary market: Platinum parts require platform firmware that is licensed for them (some OEM boards restrict non-Platinum SKUs and vice versa), and heatsinks differ between 105 W and 205 W classes — tell us your exact server model when you enquire and we will confirm compatibility.
| Processor | Cores / Threads | Base / Turbo | Cache | TDP | Memory | Sockets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Platinum 8260 | 24 / 48 | 2.40 / 3.90 GHz | 35.75 MB | 165 W | 6× DDR4-2933 | up to 8S |
| Gold 6246 | 12 / 24 | 3.30 / 4.20 GHz | 24.75 MB | 165 W | 6× DDR4-2933 | up to 4S |
| Gold 6258R | 28 / 56 | 2.70 / 4.00 GHz | 38.5 MB | 205 W | 6× DDR4-2666 | up to 2S |
| Gold 6542Y | 24 / 48 | 2.90 / 4.10 GHz | 60 MB | 250 W | 8× DDR5-5200 | 2S |
Against the Gold 6258R (more cores, 2S only, 205 W) the 8260 trades 4 cores for 8-socket scalability and 40 W less heat. Against the newer 6542Y it has the same 24-core shape but the older DDR4/PCIe 3.0 platform — it remains the value pick for existing Gen10/14G fleets and 4S/8S systems that cannot move to Socket E.
Every processor is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship and function. If a part fails within the period we replace it or refund it, and we cover return shipping on a verified fault. Stock is held in our own warehouse and normally dispatches within three to seven working days; tracking is issued at dispatch.
The minimum order quantity for this processor is 2 units. Price is quotation-based rather than listed, because server CPU pricing moves with each incoming batch — send us the quantity you need and we will come back with a firm quote and the current lead time. Larger quantities are tested in matched batches so you receive consistent steppings.
Tell us who you are — we reply within one working day with a firm quote, stock status and lead time. Volume discounts available.
