The volume corporate Skylake i7
The i7-6700 is the standard Skylake i7: four cores with Hyper-Threading at 3.40 GHz with a 4.00 GHz Turbo, 8 MB of cache and a 65 W envelope. It filled the 2015–2017 corporate desktop fleets — Dell, HP and Lenovo towers of that era shipped with it by the million, which is why it remains one of the most common replacement parts on the socket.
Hyper-Threading takes the four cores to eight threads, which keeps heavy browser sessions and multi-application office work responsive. Intel HD Graphics 530 with Quick Sync drives dual displays and hardware-decodes video without a discrete card, and the 65 W envelope runs on the standard OEM cooler.

The 6700K trades the locked multiplier for an unlocked one and a 91 W envelope — the enthusiast option with a Z170 board. The 7700 is the Kaby Lake refresh: same four cores, slightly higher clocks and the HD 630 media engine. For office duty the 6700 remains the volume pick.
