Frequently Asked Questions

No — the X-series 5000 desktop processors carry no iGPU, so the build requires a discrete graphics card before the board will POST. G-series APUs are the models with onboard graphics.

The multiplier is locked by design — AMD spent the headroom on the 3D V-Cache instead. Memory overclocking and Infinity Fabric tuning remain available on AM4 boards, and the cache itself is what carries the gaming performance.

The 5800X3D stacks a 64 MB SRAM die on top of its 32 MB L3 cache, giving 96 MB total. Game working sets fit largely on the processor itself, cutting trips to system memory — which is why it often matches or beats higher-clocked Ryzen parts in games.

Any Socket AM4 board: 500-series (X570, B550, A520) work out of the box, while 400- and 300-series boards support it after a BIOS update (spring 2022 releases add 5800X3D support). Check the board vendor CPU-support list for the exact BIOS version.

Officially DDR4-3200 in dual channel (2 channels, up to 128 GB). Faster DDR4 kits can be run through the memory overclocking controls on AM4 boards.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processor — 8 cores and 16 threads, 3.4 GHz base rising to 4.5 GHz with Precision Boost, a massive 96 MB of GameCache from AMD 3D V-Cache, 105 W TDP, Socket AM4. Supplied from stock with a 1-year warranty.

The eight-core 3D V-Cache flagship for AM4

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the gaming flagship of the Vermeer desktop line: one eight-core CCD with a 64 MB SRAM die stacked directly on top of the 32 MB L3 cache, giving 96 MB of L3 in total — three times what any other AM4 processor carries. It runs at a 3.40 GHz base with a 4.50 GHz maximum boost and a 105 W TDP, launched April 2022 on the 7 nm Zen 3 architecture.

It is the direct route to the fastest gaming on the mature AM4 platform: the enormous cache keeps more of the working set on the processor itself, which matters most at high frame rates where the GPU is waiting on the CPU. Like the rest of the X-series it carries no integrated graphics, so a discrete graphics card does the display work.

Instruction set extensions: MMX, SSE up to SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2. Precision Boost 2 operates as on other Vermeer parts; memory overclocking and Infinity Fabric tuning remain available on AM4 boards even though the multiplier is locked.

Which systems take this processor

Anything on the Socket AM4 platform: X570 for full PCIe 4.0 on every slot, B550 for PCIe 4.0 on the primary slot with a mainstream price, A520 for entry builds, and 400-series X470/B450 boards once the BIOS is updated to an AGESA that supports Ryzen 5000.

Two caveats: AM4 boards do not accept AM5 processors such as the Ryzen 7000 series and vice versa — the sockets look similar but the pinout, mounting and keying all changed, so check the socket, not just the brand. Also verify the board BIOS is Ryzen 5000-ready (most 5800X3D support landed in the spring 2022 BIOS releases) before ordering. Tell us the board or the machine model when you enquire and we will confirm before you order.

The 5800X3D trades clock speed and overclocking for three times the cache of the standard 5800X — in games that trade is usually a win, and it frequently matches the twelve- and sixteen-core parts at a lower cost. For purely multi-threaded work the 5900X and 5950X still pull ahead on core count. All five share the AM4 platform and the same board support.

How each processor is tested before it ships

  1. Visual inspection of the integrated heat spreader, substrate and contact pads; the OPN laser marking (100-000000651 on our 5800X3D stock) is verified against the AMD specification sheet.
  2. Burn-in on an AM4 diagnostic board with a matched pair of DDR4 UDIMMs.
  3. Both memory channels and the primary PCIe lanes are validated, then the processor is identified in the BIOS and in the operating system.
  4. A sustained multi-threaded load test at full core count, with the clock and thermal readings recorded.
  5. Thermal paste cleaned off, final inspection, then packaging in an anti-static tray with foam — which is how it arrives to you.

Warranty and lead time

Every processor is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship and function. If a part fails within the period we replace it or refund it, and we cover return shipping on a verified fault. Stock is held in our own warehouse and normally dispatches within three to seven working days; tracking is issued at dispatch.

Purchasing and volume enquiries

The minimum order quantity for this processor is 2 units. Price is quotation-based rather than listed, because CPU pricing moves with each incoming batch — send us the quantity you need and we will come back with a firm quote and the current lead time. Larger quantities ship from the same batch so the OPN and the stepping stay consistent across your order.
