Ten hybrid cores at 65 W

The i5-13400F is the budget Raptor Lake i5: six Raptor Cove performance cores plus four efficiency cores — ten cores, sixteen threads — at 2.50 GHz P-core base with a 4.60 GHz Turbo, 20 MB of cache, 65 W, launched Q1 2023. As an F-variant it has no integrated graphics.

Against the 12400F it adds four E-cores and 200 MHz of Turbo for a small premium, which is why it displaced that part as the default pick for discrete-card builds. A discrete graphics card is required to POST. The LGA1700 platform carries over: DDR4 or DDR5 boards, PCIe 5.0, and BIOS updates that run 12th, 13th and 14th Generation parts alike.

Which systems take this processor

Anything on the LGA1700 socket with an Intel 600 or 700 series chipset: H610, B660, H670, Q670, Z690, W680, B760, H770 and Z790. Both DDR4 and DDR5 boards exist for this socket — the memory type is a property of the board, not the processor, and these parts support either.

• Business desktops and SFF machines — Dell OptiPlex 3000 / 5000 / 7000 series, HP EliteDesk 800 G9, Lenovo ThinkCentre M70q / M90q. The 65 W envelope and low idle power suit 1-litre and micro-tower chassis.
• Entry workstations — HP Z2 G9, Dell Precision 3660, Lenovo ThinkStation P360, where hybrid cores with Hyper-Threading and PCIe 5.0 cover office, CAD and light rendering duty.
• Home lab and NAS builds — W680 boards support ECC UDIMMs with Core parts, and the integrated UHD 730 / 770 engine keeps transcoding on the iGPU.

One caveat when buying a board separately: 600 series boards may need a BIOS update before they recognise a 14th Generation part, and the LGA1700 socket has a loading-frame retention mechanism — check that the board ships with the correct frame. Tell us the board or the machine model when you enquire and we will confirm.

How it compares across the i5 line

The 14400F is the Raptor Lake Refresh bin: 100 MHz more Turbo on the same layout. The 12600KF is the unlocked alternative at 125 W for Z-series boards. If motherboard video is required, the 14400 with UHD 730 is the equivalent part with graphics.

How each processor is tested before it ships

1. Visual inspection of the integrated heat spreader, substrate and contact pads; the sSpec laser marking (SRMBG/SRMBN on our i5-13400F stock) is verified against the Intel specification sheet.
2. Burn-in on a matched diagnostic board with a pair of memory modules of the correct type for this platform.
3. All populated memory channels and the primary PCIe lanes are validated, then the processor is identified in the BIOS and in the operating system.
4. A sustained multi-threaded load test at full core count, with the clock and thermal readings recorded.
5. Thermal paste cleaned off, final inspection, then packaging in an anti-static tray with foam — which is how it arrives to you.

Every processor is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship and function.
