Frequently Asked Questions

No — six performance cores only, with Hyper-Threading making twelve threads. The hybrid P+E layout starts above it in the line. For office and transactional workloads this is an advantage: no scheduler guesswork about where a thread lands.

Either — the choice belongs to the board, not the processor. DDR5-4800 gives more bandwidth and a longer upgrade path; DDR4-3200 is cheaper and indistinguishable for office and point-of-sale work. Both run at their rated speed on this part.

Every unit carries a 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship and function. A verified faulty processor is replaced or refunded, and we cover the return shipping.

Every unit is inspected on arrival and again before dispatch: the heat spreader and the socket contact pads are checked for physical damage, thermal paste is cleaned off, and the processor is run through a full-core load test. Verified faulty units are replaced or refunded under our 1-year warranty.

The minimum order quantity is 2 units. Pricing is quotation-based rather than fixed, so send us the quantity you need and we will reply with a firm quote; volume orders are priced progressively lower.

Any board with an Intel chipset from this list: Intel 600 series (H610, B660, H670, Q670, Z690, W680) and 700 series (B760, H770, Z790). Tell us the board or the machine model when you enquire and we will confirm compatibility and any BIOS requirement before you order.

2 channels DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200, up to 128 GB, with a maximum bandwidth of 76.8 GB/s. The board determines whether ECC modules can be used; on consumer chipsets the same modules run as plain non-ECC. DDR type is not interchangeable — check the board before ordering memory.

No. Intel UHD Graphics 730 is integrated, so the motherboard video outputs drive the display and hardware video decode is handled on the iGPU. Add a discrete card only for gaming, CUDA or heavier compute work.

The TDP is 65 W and the maximum operating temperature is 100 °C, so a cooler rated for the LGA1700 socket and at least 65 W is sufficient. No cooler is included with the processor — make sure your chassis has one before the build.

Our stock ships under sSpec numbers SRL4V/SRL5Y — one model can carry several sSpec numbers across steppings, all the same specification. The laser marking on the integrated heat spreader is read off each unit and checked against the Intel specification sheet during inspection, and the sSpec is confirmed in the BIOS at boot.

The Intel Core i5-12400 Processor — 6 cores and 12 threads, 2.5 GHz base rising to 4.4 GHz with Turbo Boost, 18 MB Intel Smart Cache, 65 W processor base power, LGA1700. Supplied from stock with a 1-year warranty.

The Alder Lake value king

The i5-12400 is the part that made Alder Lake mainstream: six Golden Cove performance cores with Hyper-Threading — twelve threads — at 2.50 GHz base with a 4.40 GHz Turbo, 18 MB of cache, 65 W, launched Q1 2022 on the LGA1700 socket. There are no efficiency cores on this chip: six large cores, nothing else.

The per-core jump over Rocket Lake is large — roughly 25% more IPC — and it showed in everything from office responsiveness to gaming. The platform is equally modern: PCIe 5.0 from the CPU, DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 depending on the board, and a 128 GB memory ceiling. Intel UHD Graphics 730 with Quick Sync covers display and decode.

Which systems take this processor

Anything on the LGA1700 socket with an Intel 600 or 700 series chipset: H610, B660, H670, Q670, Z690, W680, B760, H770 and Z790. Both DDR4 and DDR5 boards exist for this socket — the memory type is a property of the board, not the processor, and these parts support either.

One caveat when buying a board separately: 600 series boards may need a BIOS update before they recognise a 14th Generation part, and the LGA1700 socket has a loading-frame retention mechanism — check that the board ships with the correct frame. Tell us the board or the machine model when you enquire and we will confirm.

How it compares across the i5 line

i5-124006 / 122.50 / 4.40 GHz18 MB65 WLGA1700

i5-12400F6 / 122.50 / 4.40 GHz18 MB65 WLGA1700

The 12400F removes the iGPU at a lower price; the 12500 adds 500 MHz at base and steps the graphics up to UHD 770. All three share the LGA1700 platform, so a board bought for a 12400 takes the 13th and 14th Generation parts after a BIOS update.

How each processor is tested before it ships

  1. Visual inspection of the integrated heat spreader, substrate and contact pads; the sSpec laser marking (SRL4V/SRL5Y on our i5-12400 stock) is verified against the Intel specification sheet.
  2. Burn-in on a matched diagnostic board with a pair of memory modules of the correct type for this platform.
  3. All populated memory channels and the primary PCIe lanes are validated, then the processor is identified in the BIOS and in the operating system.
  4. A sustained multi-threaded load test at full core count, with the clock and thermal readings recorded.
  5. Thermal paste cleaned off, final inspection, then packaging in an anti-static tray with foam — which is how it arrives to you.

Warranty and lead time

Every processor is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship and function. If a part fails within the period we replace it or refund it, and we cover return shipping on a verified fault. Stock is held in our own warehouse and normally dispatches within three to seven working days; tracking is issued at dispatch.

Purchasing and volume enquiries

The minimum order quantity for this processor is 2 units. Price is quotation-based rather than listed, because CPU pricing moves with each incoming batch — send us the quantity you need and we will come back with a firm quote and the current lead time. Larger quantities ship from the same production batch so the sSpec and the stepping stay consistent across your order.
