The 8351N belongs to the 3rd Gen Xeon Scalable (Ice Lake-SP) family, launched in Q2 2021 on a 10 nm process. It pairs 36 cores / 72 threads with a 2.4 GHz base and a 3.5 GHz turbo ceiling on a 225 W envelope, plus PCIe 4.0 with 64 lanes. It is the 1S Only part of the stack - rated for single-socket nodes, with no second-CPU pairing. It runs DDR4-2933 across eight channels with a 6 TB per-socket ceiling - Intel Optane persistent memory 200 series is supported alongside DDR4. Intel Speed Select comes as Core Power, Turbo Frequency and Base Frequency variants, with a high-priority / low-priority partition of 18 cores at 2.6 GHz and 18 cores at 2.2 GHz.

Security and acceleration are Ice Lake Platinum staples: AVX-512 with two FMA units, DL Boost, TSX-NI and VMD, Intel Crypto Acceleration, Resource Director Technology and Speed Shift, plus Total Memory Encryption, Run Sure reliability and Platform Firmware Resilience. SGX is supported with Intel SPS and a 64 GB enclave page cache. It is also rated Embedded Options Available, suiting long-life appliance designs. Thermal rating is TCASE 76 °C - the coolest air-cooled Platinum rating of this batch, behind only the Gold 6334's 69 °C - in a 77.5 mm × 56.5 mm package.

Against the 2nd Gen flagship Platinum 8280, the 8351N brings eight more cores (36 vs 28) and 15.5 MB more cache at a 300 MHz lower base clock, moves I/O to PCIe 4.0 with 64 lanes (up from 48 on PCIe 3.0), and widens memory to eight channels with a 6 TB ceiling (up from six channels, 1 TB) for 20 W more power. Against the Platinum 8360Y it keeps identical core, thread, cache and clock counts, but runs inside a 25 W smaller envelope, steps memory down to DDR4-2933, and is single-socket only where the 8360Y pairs in two-socket nodes. Next to its Gold counterpart, the 32-core 6338, it brings four more cores, 6 MB more cache, a 400 MHz higher base and a 300 MHz higher turbo for 20 W more.
